David’s Insight on “The Plug"
Morro Rock was formed at the mouth of Morro Bay Harbor about 23 million years ago from the plug of an extinct volcano. It is part of a chain of volcanic peaks known as the Nine Sisters. Sacred to 2 different tribes, it is protected as a preserve. Members of the Salinan Tribe climb the rock twice a year during the summer and winter solstice to perform ceremonies and it is central to many of their legends. I tried to capture it from different angles, see video for the behind the scenes.
