David’s insight on “Nine Dragon Interchange”
Standing on the top of a building in the heart of Shanghai China is an extraordinary experience. Watching the heartbeat of a city with over 24 million people throb below, capturing the movement of the city with a long exposure at night, is something that I will never forget. Legend has it that during construction of the interchange, the crews inexplicably couldn't breach the ground below the central pillar. A local priest was called in and determined that a dragon was sleeping under the site. The construction had awoken it and it required a noble gesture in its honor to be appeased. The central pillar is a glittering golden monument to the dragon!
